We are back in school at Auburn Adventist Academy after our lovely spring break! With students spending their breaks all over the country and all over the world, there are lots of stories to share. This week is a snapshot of spring break activities, but look for more stories as we collect them and more pictures as students have time to share.

AAA sent some students out into the world to spread God’s message through service. The Dominican Republic welcomed two of our students and one staff member as they preached and visited with people. A group of 50 people went to Kauai, Hawaii where they helped a summer camp complete some much needed up-keep. They painted, renovated their kitchen, worked on their grounds and put on services for the local church.

“The camp staff was so grateful that we were there they just kept thanking us for what we had done,” Says Madison Cotter, Junior from Burlington, Wash.

Eighteen other students went to the Philippines with the mission group In His Service Amianan where they poured cement for the third level to the hospital, which this group has been building for a number of years.

“I loved the VBS program! The kids were so cute! They just wanted to be with you; they would all want to come hold your hand and sit on your lap. They were so sweet and it was so much fun to just be with them and teach them Bible verses and tell them stories,” said Elliot Fletcher, Junior from Auburn, Wash.

Seventeen students, staff, and parents returned from the Europe Academic Tour. They took their spring break time to enjoy a cultural and historical experience in Italy and France.

Thank you everyone, for your prayers and support of these trips! Everyone came back richly blessed and happy with what they had experienced. Students loved the opportunity to grow academically or spiritually, and to meet new friends.

“I got to know people that I wouldn’t have otherwise known on this trip and I really liked that,” said Justice Ryder, Junior from Tacoma, Wash.

Bridge Breaking in Engineering Class

March 28, 2012 was a day filled with anticipation for Mr. Allen’s Engineering Class. It was bridge breaking day.

Each engineering student had been working diligently to design and then build a bridge to certain specifications laid out by Mr. Allen. Their bridge needed to span 300mm, be made out of the same materials as the rest of the class (balsa wood, string, and glue), and support at least 500 times the weight of their bridge.

The order was set, and one-by-one, each student brought their bridge to the front of the class, weighted the bridge until the inevitable crack and then jumped as their bridge exploded as pieces of their bridge gave into the pressure.

Many were surprised at how much weight their bridge could hold. Trei Decker was one of those surprised, but pleased students. His bridge held 874 times its own weight and made his bridge the winner! Freddy Vega and Jonathan Reseck were a close second and third.
